IKEA has an ambitious expansion plan in India, to be a leading home furnishing retailer with multi-channel capabilities and also opening about 25 stores by 2030. In Karnataka, IKEA plans both retail stores and ecommerce, a supplier landscape to support local sourcing and has also located its service office for the country in Bangalore. IKEA’s first store in Bengaluru will be in Nagasandra on Tumkur road; IKEA has acquired 14 acres of land and a 40,000 sq.m (450,000 sq. ft.) store will be built with integrated metro connectivity offering great accessibility and catering to over 6 million visitors per year.

We are currently looking for a Community Relations Manager to join our IKEA Bengaluru Store.

  • IKEA is looking to recruit a new colleague, to be based in Bengaluru, with a strong sustainability background, both environmental and social, and who has had contacts and worked with various local authorities.

  • The person we look for is positive, open and ready to do everything from leading the waste management agenda and securing good working conditions among our store suppliers to building relations with labour authorities.


  • Engage managers and co-workers by providing timely and relevant sustainability knowledge and information. Provide support in delivering co-worker sustainability training and secure the understanding of roles and contributions to the sustainability agenda in each function. Provide support in identifying talent and succession planning.

  • Inspire and enable people to live a more sustainable life at home through integral involvement in related projects and activities, such as the co-worker and customer engagement projects and range solutions.

  • Ensure that the sustainability basics are in place by contributing to all aspects of IKEA store operations.

  • Work with the other functions and contract owners on IWAY (services,maintenance, renovations, rebuilds etc) and sustainability point of view by providing information and support relating to best practice, etc.

  • Map and engage with relevant stake holders in the local community such as authorities, media, police, fire, RWA etc, understanding their needs and keeping them informed about our work towards becoming People & Planet Positive.

  • Initiate and lead various community involvement initiatives relevant to local needs and supporting the national sustainability strategy together with IKEA Foundation, Next Generation and other partners.

  • Together with SO Public Relations create local media opportunities.


  • Knowledge and understanding of the local political landscape.

  • Fundamental understanding of the state governmental decision making process and how to engage in public dialogue.

  • A broad interest in the general public policy debate.

  • Experience in public speaking and external communication. Agency experience is a plus.

  • Strategic planning abilities

  • Ability to distil business information into impactful and effective messaging.

  • Experience in environmental and/or social work


  • Ability to work independently, plan your own time, take responsibility, manage multiple projects and show initiative.

  • Ability to build consensus and be diplomatic.

  • Excellent at listening, building relationships and networks.

  • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • High sense of integrity and ethical behaviour
